Borealis daytrips to Odda

Last week Borealis announced that taking the festival on a journey to another place is a natural interpretation of the "tripping" theme. In addition to the Fantoft program Borealis will dedicate Wednesday the 23rd of March to the beautiful city of Odda. The festival will really get to know Odda and let Odda get to know the festival by moving the events into the locals' houses, shops and museums.

Borealis loves Odda! In October last year Borealis contributed to the literary festival symposium, and Pritchard has plans for a major event in Odda also next year. The 23rd of March will the public that either live in or take a trip to Odda have the opportunity to really get to know a number of world class musicians and the Borealis festival in general, but also the local community, other spectators, public buildings, private homes and shops.

The program is structured so that, after attending the opening ceremony at Smelteverket, you can rotate between four venues where four concerts with a duration of 15 minutes will take place. Odda School Corps will perform non-traditional corps music in Odda library. Cellist Tanja Orning will play from a wide range of contemporary music in Norsk Vasskraft og Industrimuseum, ranging from a historically recognized piece by Morton Feldman to newer self-composed music. In the old manor house in Kremarvegen 4, the English composer collective Brainer will perform the piece "Do It Again", creatively combining rythms with voice. The tour will go on to the shop Espeland Dame A / S in which the brilliant percussionist Tatsuya Nakatani from Osaka in Japan will show off his rhythmic skills. The renowned music magazine The Wire describes him as "A brilliant percussion improvisor, he is Capable of a wide range of sounds and qualities, and is always fully present, neither lagging behind nor rushing ahead. His work dances full of thoughtfully with an overall easy clarity and earthy groundedness." His concert in the clothing store will surely be very memorable.

Later in the evening the audience will meet again in Smelteverket where Norwegian Ensemble Fanfaronner through their project 'MMMnamenam' will combine food with new music and theater. The eventful day in Odda will be rounded off in the cinema where Simon Katan from Brainer will involve the audience in an interactive sound installation named "Sound Pit". The party will continue throughout the night with DJs in Odda Cinema – all in all this is likely to be an extraordinary Wednesday!
